Audacity Performing Arts Project: US teens lag in global education rankings

We have clung to this insane notion since the recent Bush Administration first term. How are we doing so far? Well, clearly are students are falling behind. Our high school drop out rate is staggering; 60% in some poorer communities. Students are giving up and mentally checking out in ever increasing numbers. What we have truly succeed at is gutting the arts and humanities. Is there a relation? Without the arts and creativity how are children supposed to imagine and become inspired? Education should be about inspiration as opposed to this binge and purge methodology. When nothing inspires, when nothing fires the imagination, when all one does is drill and memorize only to purge on a test form — when this is the reality, where is there room for hope, inspiration or a future?
